Vijayawada: A.B. Venkateswara Rao assumed charge as the Director General of Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday. Earlier, Rao was the DG of intelligence but Opposition YSR Congress complained about doing favour to ruling Telugu Desam. Hence, the Election Commission put Mr Rao aside from that post.
Mr Rao’s transfer created a controversy as the State Government opposed the transfer and knocked the doors of the High Court but the government got a shock as the High Court supported the EC’s decision.
Earlier, the government appointed the then ACB DG R.P. Thakur as the AP DGP and he continued in two posts. But before the election, the EC relieved Mr Thakur from the ACB DG post on April 4. Now, Mr Rao got an appointment as ACB DG.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rao said that ACB has been really strong in AP State and has been relentlessly working against corruption. He asserted on the need for cooperation from the public to ACB for eliminating corruption. He said that people can lodge complaints with ACB against corruption through social media also. He appealed the public to give information to ACB if they have evidence about corruption and assured to restrain corruption with the help of the public.
