Hyderabad: Underpass construction at Mindspace done

The underpass at Chintalkunta Checkpost too has been completed and is ready for inauguration.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed the construction of Mindspace underpass at a cost of Rs 25.78 crore. The 305 metre underpass will help ease the traffic congestion for commuters travelling from Cyber Towers to Bio-diversity junction.

The GHMC will be inaugurating the underpass within a couple of days. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Mr K.T. Rama Rao and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan would be inaugurating it soon, officials said.

For the GHMC, which has already completed the underpass at Biodiversity Park Junction and has opened it for traffic, the Mindspace underpass will be the second successful project under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

“Studies have shown that around 14,400 vehicles pass through this stretch every hour now and the number of vehicles by the year 2035 is expected to shoot up to 31,356 every hour,” an official said.

Seeking to find a solution not just for immediate traffic relief but also factoring in long-term solutions for the expected rise in number of vehicles, four jobs have been undertaken here. ‘

Apart from Mindspace Junction, three other multi-level/grade separators have been built at Biodiversity Junction, Ayyappa Society and Rajiv Gandhi statue junction with the entire cost of all components amounting to Rs 379 crore.

Apart from this facility, the underpass at Chintalkunta Checkpost too has been completed and is ready for inauguration.
