Telangana snaps power to Andhra Pradesh MLA quarters

According to sources, the AP government had to pay upto Rs 16 lakh to Telangana power discom.

Hyderabad: Due to non-payment of electricity bills by the Andhra Pradesh government, Telangana power discom has disconnected the power supply to AP MLA quarters in the city.

Following complaints from an MLA residing at the quarter to the AP Assembly affairs authorities, the AP government released the funds and the power was restored.

The MLA quarters at Adarsh-nagar and Hyderguda have been divided between the two governments after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and residual AP.

According to sources, the AP government had to pay upto Rs 16 lakh to Telangana power discom. However, despite rep-eated reminders, AP Assembly affairs department failed to clear the bills, forcing the discom to disconnect the power supply to the MLA quarters.

Speaking to the newspaper, an officer from the AP Asse-mbly affairs department said, “Since February and March are the busy time clearing bills, our cheques became invalid due to fund deficiencies. However, on Monday, following calls from an MLA present at the MLA quarters, the funds were released and the power was restored.

The official said that the amount was transferred online.
