Transformer cable electrocutes kid in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A six-year-old child was electrocuted when he touched an electricity cable hanging from a transformer near his house in Nacharam on Sunday.
G. Ganesh was following a bird when the incident occurred. Locals said the insulation of the cable had been damaged a week ago. Police is likely to book case against electricity officials for causing death due to negligence.
According to the Nacha-ram police, the incident occurred at NTR Nagar at Mallapur at around 7.30 am. “The child had gone out to play while his parents were busy inside the house. He was apparently following a bird. He accidentally touched the hanging cable, which had no proper insulation. He was electrocuted and died on the spot,” said a police official from Nacharam.
The victim’s father, Mr G. Lingaiah, alleged that the negligence of Southern Discom officials had led to his son’s death. In the police complaint, he stated that the cable had been hanging without insulation for a while now, and the officials had not repaired it.
Locals claimed that they had informed the local electricity officials, but no repair work had been done. However, discom officials said that they were not aware of the incident.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear about the tragedy. We had not received any complaints regarding the damaged cable. “If we had any information, we would have fixed it quickly,” Mr A Ramu, ADE (operations), Habsiguda division, told this newspaper.
The Nacharam police has booked a case for suspicious death following a complaint from the victim’s father. “We are investigating the matter. If needed, we will alter the section and book a case against the electricity officials,” said Nacharam inspector N. Pravinder Rao. TSSPDCL has not declared any compensation in this matter so far. The victim’s father is a daily wage labourer.
