Warangal:A day after the entire nation clapped and clanged utensils in appreciation of medical workers, reports are that some house-owners in Warangal asked a few doctors to vacate their rented houses.

They fear these doctors could be carrying the coronavirus disease, transmitted from the patients they deal with.

About 150 house surgeons from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal work at the MGM Hospital. Most of these interns hail from different parts of the state and stay in rented houses near the hospital in areas near Pochamma Maidan and Gopala Swamy temple.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the house owners are allegedly asking them to leave.

One of the surgeons who were asked to vacate their rented house took their woes to Facebook, which is now going viral. It said that one of the house-owners called the doctor ‘dirty’ because he works in a hospital.

“Our campus hostels were converted into isolation wards by the state government. We are working in the hospital without any protective equipment during this pandemic, without any holiday, without any stipend since five months while the nation is in lockdown (sic),” the post read.

“What were the claps and rings yesterday for? Where is the gratitude they showed us yesterday? Why do we have to risk our lives for their health if this is the way people treat us (sic),” the house surgeon asked.

District collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu said they had discussed the issue with junior doctors and resolved it.

“A separate block has been allotted to accommodate the house surgeons in the Kakatiya Medical College premises. At the same time we are seeing that the doctors are well equipped with protective gear inside the hospital.”

He requested people to show respect towards the doctors and acknowledge their services in the fight against coronavirus.
