Suspected sunstroke death reported in Thiruvananthapuram

Sunstroke threat continues to loom large as the Kerala State Disaster Management Authorities sounding high alert as the mercury level soars.

Thiruvananthapuram : A sunstroke death has been reported in the state capital on Sunday raising serious concern for farmers and labourers working under the scorching sun. 42-year-old Karunakaran, a state government employee from Parasala, collapsed while working in the field on Sunday morning following suspected sunstroke.

He was declared dead at a local hospital and later shifted to Medical College Hospital. The exact cause of the death would be declared only after the post-mortem report and after preliminary examinations, the doctor suspected it to be a case of sunstroke.

Sunstroke threat continues to loom large as the Kerala State Disaster Management Authorities sounding high alert as the mercury level soars. However, violation of the mandatory advisory restructuring the working hours of outdoor labourers by the state labour department is rampant in the state capital.

On Sunday, workers were seen working at the construction site of the Chackai over-bridge even during the mandatory recess time raising serious questions against the enforcement mechanism of the district labour department.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has sounded sunstroke alert in the state including Thiruvananthapuram till Tuesday as the Indian Meteorology Department forecasting two to three degree rise in temperatures in most part of the state in the coming days
