Nizambad: A six-year-old girl who went missing from school in Nizamabad on Saturday was united with her parents thanks to active participants on social media.
Rakshita of Kasabgally, Nizamabad, a Class I student of the government primary school in the locality wandered off when the school closed on Saturday.
Sources said Rakshita’s mother Roja usually picks her up from school every day. She reached the school 10 minutes late on Saturday only to find Rakshita missing.
After searching for her, she realised that Rakshita was last seen at Gole Hanuman Circle in the city. Rakshita, meanwhile, had reached Pragathinagar and was crying.
Locals called up the police and IV Town sub-inspector Narender rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. He forwarded her details and picture on social media and the police communication network.
Rakshita told the police her name and the name of her father Varada Raju, but she was unable to say where they stayed.
The police forwarded Rakshita’s details on the Whatsapp group maintained by government schools. Unfortunately, the Kasabgally primary school was not linked to the group and no one realised that Rakshita had been found. As a result, police did not get any response till Saturday night and they decided to shift Rakshita to the government girls protection home in Subhashnagar.
The message, however, began to be forwarded on local messaging groups till it reached the neighbours of Rakshita’s parents.
They rushed to Rakshita’s house and informed them that the girl was safe.
Her parents rushed to the police station, where they were reunited with Rakshita.
Her parents said she was suffering with mental problem following a head injury when she was three years old. Sub-inspector Narender thanked netizens for sharing the details of the girl which ensured her safe return.
