AICC poll panel to decide on Rahul Gandhi

CWC leader Oommen Chandy also said that a confirmation will be arrived on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: AICC's Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting will be held at New Delhi on Monday which will decide on the candidature of Congress president Rahul Gandhi. CWC leader Oommen Chandy also said that a confirmation will be arrived on Monday.

The suspense is still on whether Congress president Rahul Gandhi will contest from Wayanad or not. On Sunday, when the ninth list of the Congress list was released by the AICC leadership, the Wayanad and Vatakara Lok Sabha candidates have not been announced, increasing the suspense.

Reports coming from New Delhi revealed that Rahul Gandhi will either be contesting from Way-anad or Bengaluru South. But when the ninth list was announced on Sund-ay, B. K. Hariprasad has been made the candidate in Bengaluru South in Karnataka and P. Chida-mbaram’s son Karthi Chi-dambaram from Sivaga-nga in Tamil Nadu.

CWC leader P. C. Chacko told reporters in New Delhi that Rahul Gandhi has not yet taken a decision on contesting from Wayanad. He termed the media reports on Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad as baseless.

“The news being circulated on Rahul Gandhi's candidature from Waya-nad is yet to be decided. Rahul Gandhi has to take a final call", said Chacko.

He also ranted at the group leaders citing that the candidature in the state was decided as per their decision. A peeved Chacko ranted that the group leaders are narrow minded who are just bothered about their own loyalists in the group.

“The talks on the candidature were not done in right earnest. It was the Karnataka PCC who first extended its invitation before Rahul Gandhi to contest from there. Along with Karnataka, the other two neighbouring States, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have also got a chance to see him contesting", added Chacko.

KPCC leadership is upset over the way Chac-ko came down against them openly. A top Con-gress leader told DC that Chacko is upset as he was denied a seat in Chalak-udy. But it was Chandy who was firm in his stand to get the Chalakudy LS seat for his loyalist, Benny Behanan who is also the UDF convener.

Meanwhile, the AICC's CEC will be held at New Delhi at 11 am. KPCC president Mullapally Ra-machandran was scheduled to address the media at 11 am. But Opposition Leader Ramesh Chenni-thala had already called a press meet at the same time which led Mullap-ally to call off his press meet. CWC leader Oom-men Chandy maintained that there is no confusion on the candidature in Wayanad. "KPCC has requested before Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad. But he has not yet commented on the proposal. The CEC meeting will be held on Monday”, said Chandy.
