DK Shivakumar promise: No power cuts, atleast till June
Bengaluru: Energy Minister Mr D.K. Shivakumar has claimed that the state would not face power problems till June. However, the situation after that canot be predicted now as it depends on whether Karnataka receives good rain, he said.
Meanwhile, the state government will ensure that there are no power problem during the school and college examination period, Mr Shivakumar said.
Answering a question by BJP member and former minister Mr Aravind Limbavali, Mr Shivakumar said that despite the continuing drought, the state has ensured that there is no power shortage.
Karnataka is at present purchasing 1,000 Mw power. In urban areas, power supply is ensured 22-24 hours a day, while rural people get seven hours three phase power in two stages. Besides, ten hours of single phase power would be supplied for domestic use, he said.
Even when hit by a severe drought, the state has not resorted to load shedding and this situation will continue till June. Due to technical reasons, there would be power disruptions, the minister added.
