Speeding cab knocks down woman cyclist on KIA road

The deceased has been identified as Meghana Gulavadi, who hailed from Chennai.

BENGALURU: A 38-year-old service manager with British Airways, who was cycling, died after a speeding cab knocked her down. The incident occurred at Bharathi Nagar Cross on KIA Road on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Meghana Gulavadi, who hailed from Chennai. She was staying in the city since 2014 and was living in an apartment in Kodigehalli.

Police said that Meghana, who was single, used to cycle from her house to KIA. The incident happened around 6 pm when she was returning home. When she neared Bharathi Nagar Cross, a speeding cab knocked her down. Due to the impact she tossed in the air and fell unconscious.

“She had sustained grave head injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed after a while. Her parents in Chennai have been informed about the incident. The cab driver, Venkatachala, 42, has been arrested for rash and negligent driving,” the Yelahanka traffic police, who have registered a case, said.

Cabbie dies in accident
Chandrashekhar, 26, a resident of Jaraganahalli near J P Nagar and a cab driver attached to Uber died on the spot when a water tanker ran over him at Raghuvanahalli on Kanakapura Road on Wednesday night. Police said the incident occurred around 10 pm, when Chandrashekhar was on his way to Thalaghattapura on his bike to meet his friends. A water tanker rammed into his vehicle before running over him. While Chandrashekhar died on the spot, the tanker driver sped away. Thalaghattapura police have registered a case.
