Meanwhile, home guard M. Lingaiah underwent surgery on his head after he was seriously injured in Wednesday’s violence. Police said the home guard was hurt when his vehicle — under attack from stone throwers — rammed the fencing around a garden.
“Home guard Lingaiah underwent surgery on Thursday morning and is in ICU under observation. We are checking CCTV footage from the spot to identify people involved in the incident,” East Zone DCP Ravinder said, adding that after identifying, action will be taken against them as per law.
Mr Ravinder added, “The situation in the campus is under control now and very soon we will nab all those responsible for the incident”.
Violence erupted on the Osmania University campus on Wednesday morning when a body was found in an underground sump behind the library. The police, who recovered the deceased’s mobile phone from the spot identified his family using the call log. He was identified as one B. Silari Babu, a daily wage labourer from Manike-shwar Nagar.
But before the identification, students said the body belonged to an OU student. Some claimed the body was carrying an OU identification card. During the scuffle, 13 policemen, some relatives of the deceased and east zone additional DCP suffered injuries. Alampur MLA Sampath Kumar’s car was also damaged in the stone throwing.
Five cases were registered after the incident. Meanwhile, normalcy was restored in the university on Thursday.
