Generic medicines to be popularised

n Minister promises to set up RO water plants on the government hospital premises

Nellore: The state government is committed to provide medicines at a cheaper rate to the poor and those below poverty line and thereby improve the health conditions of people, and the government is taking steps in this regard, said minister for municipal administration P. Narayana.

The minister inaugurated the Anna Sanjeevini Generic Medical Stores on the premises of the local government hospital in Nellore on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said there was no difference between generic medicines and branded medicine as the medicinal components in both of them are identical. People are of the opinion that the generic medicines which are cheaper will work slowly, but it is just a myth, he explained.

For example, there are several tablets like Calpol, Crocin, Dolopar and the component in all of them is Paracetamol. However, the Paracetamol is available in the generic medical stores. He exhorted the people not to pay excess amount for the branded medicines as the generic medicines are available at lesser price of 40 to 50 per cent.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government is committed to the welfare and uplift of Dwcra women and steps are being taken to mould them as prospective entrepreneurs and earn more than Rs 6,000 per month. The state government is taking steps to ensure financial self-reliance to all these women.

The minister said that steps are being taken to set up three RO mineral water plants in the government hospital premises as per the suggestion of rural legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and the district collector is being consulted in this regard.
