Anantapur: 8-year-old girl dies of sunstroke

More than 200 students of elementary school were being trained at the coaching centre with poor facilities even during scorching summer.

ANANTAPUR: Eight-year-old K. Nikhitha, a student, reportedly succumbed to sunstroke while being treated at hospital at Hindupur in the district. More than 15 children had also suffered illness due to sunstroke at a Padmasai Coaching Centre in Kodigenahalli in Parigi mandal.

Sources said a private coaching centre is being run to coach students to get admission into Navodaya, APRJC and other residential schools. More than 200 students of elementary school level were being trained at the coaching centre with poor facilities even during scorching summer. Nikhitha, a native of Kapatalinganahalli in Brahmasamudram mandal had suffered serious illness on Wednesday along with 15 others at the coaching centre.

The organisers shifted them to private hospitals without information to officials and parents. But, Nikhitha was shifted to government hospital after her condition was serious and died while being treated. Penukonda RDO K. Rama Murthy rushed to the coaching centre and ordered to close it because of scorching summer.
