Vijayawada: Financial assistance to tenant farmers sought

According to reports, there were nearly 32 lakh tenant farmers in AP State but they would not benefit from the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.

VIJAYAWADA: Native farmers unable to bear losses in farming were giving their lands on lease to tenant farmers and these farmers were barred from government schemes.

According to reports, there were nearly 32 lakh tenant farmers in AP State but they would not benefit from the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.

Tenant farmers P. Gopinath, G. Naresh Reddy and others said that the government was offering agricultural benefit to tenant farmers but from Khariff 2019 and so it was not possible to get the benefit of Annadata Sukhibhava in the present Rabi season. They said that since the Kharif season started in June and the Telugu Desam government should implement Anndata Sukhibhava to tenant farmers from this Rabi season.

CPM state secretary P. Madhu said that the norms of the Annadata Sukhibhava would not help the farmers as the aid would be offered in instalments. He said that the present financial assistance of Rs 15,000 per farmer family was insufficient and hence should be increased to Rs 25,000 with immediate effect.

“The financial assistance is given per farmer not on per acre, hence farmers with more than one acre will not be benefitted with the present financial assistance as one-acre farmer and farmers with five and 10 acres also would get the same of '15,000 assistance,” he pointed out. Mr Madhu said that the government should give '10,000 financial assistance per acre as the present help was insufficient.

He added that the government was biased towards tenant farmers in all schemes and now was also offering assistance from the Kharif season which he objected to.

He sought the government to give financial assistance to tenant farmers from the present Rabi season because they had to spend more money as compared to land owning farmers. (321w-ilyas)
