Bengaluru: Garbage segregation lesson for visitors at Aero India

Volunteers of Yelahanka ward of BBMP were there at the food court next to the ADVA zone (flying display zone).

Bengaluru: Garbage segregation lessons were also part of the Aero India show which concluded on Sunday with volunteers from the BBMP sitting near dustbins — both wet and dry — and asking people to segregate their waste and dump it into the respective bins.

Volunteers of Yelahanka ward of BBMP were there at the food court next to the ADVA zone (flying display zone). While separate bins were kept at all places in the aero show, it was only followed up near the food court.

“Only when we tell people to segregate garbage, do they do it. Else, they just dump it into any of the bins and move on,” said a volunteer of BBMP who was busy guiding people to dump the waste as per its composition.

“Tonnes of garbage get generated during these international exhibitions. So this time, we planned to use the opportunity to make visitors segregate and discard the waste,” she said and added that this will be a small step to make citizens segregate garbage at their homes and help BBMP manage the city’s garbage in a better way instead of just creating landfills.
