Without spending a penny, BBMP to spruce up Bengaluru
Bengaluru: To do away with black spots, remove solid waste pile ups, debris, sand, silt and other wastes, BBMP is on a mission to clean 1,000 km stretch of the city without spending a penny.
The two-week drive, which was kicked off on Saturday, will be done solely with the resources and manpower from citizens, corporate organisations, college students, merchants, realtors, resident welfare associations, NGOs, solid waste management contractors and others. For this purpose a mobile app 'Clean Bengaluru' was launched, where citizens can download the app from Google Playstore and register and contribute.
BBMP Special Commissioner Manoj Rajan told Deccan Chronicle, "With the help of the mobile app the participants can let us know what they wish to give such as tractors, JCBs, gloves, paint, brushes and other cleaning equipment.
Citizens who do not have anything can register and let us how many of them are willing to take part and shall be engaged in the cleaning tasks to be monitored by the nodal engineers of that stretch."
We have identified 1,000 km stretch in the city and the participants will be engaged to clean and beautify underpasses, flyovers, regions around lakes and storm water drains, Manoj added.
