Hyderabad: HC seeks state answers on Bhoodan board formation

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that more than a lakh acres in Telangana state belonging to the Board was under encroachments.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has asked the Telangana government to file an affidavit within two weeks giving reasons for not constituting the Bhoodan Yagna Board.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akhter was hearing a petition by Sarva Seva Sangh of Maharashtra seeking to declare the government inaction in reconstituting the Board under the provisions of the Telangana Bhoodan and Gramdan Act, 1965 as illegal.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that more than a lakh acres in Telangana state belonging to the Board was under encroachments.

Reacting to the submission, the bench asked the counsel for Telangana why the government has not reconstituting the Board when the Act mandates for it.
