Bengaluru: CFB calls for more buses, lower fares
Bengaluru: Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) conducted their third campaign for #BusBhagyaBeku at a garment factory near Kengeri on Mysore Road.
The campaign demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to grant funds to BMTC to increase the numbers of buses and reduce ticket fares by half. They pointed out that BMTC fares were highest in the country.
CfB co-ordinator Srinivas Alavalli said, "BMTC has become a luxury transport for lakhs of people in our city. Garment factory workers, security guards, construction workers earn a salary of around Rs 7,000 and cannot afford bus fares."
The group felt the campaign is no longer about transport in Bengaluru, but about public health, as rise in private vehicles was adding to air pollution.
"For 1.2 crore population, we now have 42 lakh bikes, 12 lakh cars and only 6,000 buses. Unlike bikes and cars, the number of buses has not been increased," Srinivas added.
To gain more support, citizens were encouraged to give a missed call to 08030474774, by CfB who are also working with Bengaluru Bus Prayaneekara Vedike.
