RSS body wants no Pattanam' in President schedule
Kochi: Bharatiya Vichara Kendram, a pro-RSS outfit, has asked the state government to drop the Pattanam excavation project from the first phase of Muziris Heritage Project to be unveiled by President Pranab Mukherji during Kodungalloor on Saturday.
“We strongly protest the move to include controversial Pattanam excavations in the programme of the President during his visit to Kodungallore to launch the first phase of Muziris Heritage Project,” BVK said in a statement on Wednesday.
The projection by Kerala Council of Historical Research (KCHR) that Pattanam near Paravur as the ancient port of Muziris has been challenged by archaeologists and historians alike, the BVK has pointed out.
The outfit has claimed that the KCHR has attempted to distort history to appease the religious sentiments of a particular community. Questioning scientific methods adopted by KCHR for the Pattanam excavation the RSS outfit said that it has also written to President and the union ministry of culture and Archeological survey of India.
