Pondicherry University students meet Vice Chancellor, call off fast

Students under the aegis of student council of the university began their fast on Monday.

Puducherry: Students of Pondicherry University ended their hunger strike on the assurance given by the vice chancellor that their demands will be resolved before March 15, 2016.

Students under the aegis of student council of the university began their fast on Monday demanding 25 per cent reservation for Puducherry students, fee exemption for SC/ST students, provide exit option for integrated students after three years, stipend for students of social science integrated course, proper implementation of SC/ST welfare schemes, 24-hour library facility and strengthening security on campus.

On Wednesday morning students council members met the vice chancellor and other officials. Students were assured that their demands will be met with immediate effect.

“We didn’t call off the strike, instead we are giving time to university administration to implement our demands. If they do not do it properly we will continue the protest,” said Jishnu, secretary of students’ council.
