Four of a family held for slapping MTC conductor at CMBT
Chennai: A mother of two toddlers was among four arrested for slapping an MTC conductor at CMBT in the wee hours of Wednesday which triggered a flash strike by busmen for four hours.
Sources said a woman, her two children and her mother who were riding along Anna Nagar bus depot after a movie late on Tuesday night in a two-wheeler stopped to shoo away an apparently drunk man dressed in ‘khakhi’, who turned abusive.
The children’s father Ramesh and his brother-in-law Vinod who were in another bike also stopped and thrashed the drunk man for his behaviour.
Six MTC crew members who were waiting for the staff bus joined in support of the drunk man and hit the male members of the family.
The women attempted to intervene. In the process Narasimman groped a woman and pulled her away.
The rattled woman squatted on the road and MTC crew left the scene in their staff bus. Before leaving, Narasimman hurled obscene words at the woman.
Enraged, the family followed the bus into CMBT where the woman hit Narasimman with her footwear injuring him in lips. The woman did not show any remorse in her act and admitted that she did hit him with her footwear because of his behaviour. This attracted the attention of the other MTC staff who resorted to a flash strike.
The police handed over the children to the relatives who were called to CMBT before registering the case. The family was remanded to judicial custody later in the day by a city magistrate.
