Coimbatore: Charred bodies found in complex

Son suspected to have killed mother, sister.

COIMBATORE: Two women were found burnt to death in their dilapidated commercial complex on Avinashi road in Coimbtore on Wednesday.

A realtor, who with an intention to purchase the building had gone into it, found the charred bodies. Acting on his information, the Race Course police rushed to the spot and held enquiries.

Police identified the two women as Anthonyammal alias Pappathi, aged 60, and her daughter Geetha, 37. After her husband Raju passed away a few years ago, Pappathi had been living with Geetha and son Saravanakumar, whose whereabouts are not known. The rest of the complex was unoccupied and was in a dilapidated condition.

Cops said the two women were burnt completely and were left with mere bones. A post-mortem is likely to be conducted on the spot by doctors from Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

Police also recovered a grinding stone with bloodstains near their charred bodies. Hence they suspect that the two women were smashed to death with the stone before being set on fire. Finger print experts and a sniffer dog were pressed into service.

Police suspect Pappathi’s son Saravanakumar, who had gone missing, to have murdered them. However further investigations are on.

The Race Course police registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
