Chaotic' transfers anger doctors
Hyderabad: As many as 1,900 doctors from Telangana who have been working in the Director of Health department at public health centers and area hospitals have been transferred to Andhra Pradesh according to the tentative list. Angry doctors who scrutinised the list on Wednesday were extremely upset about the “haphazard” manner in which the allocations had been done. A group of 20 doctors from the Telangana Government Doctors’ Association has been checking the records after the goof-up by the director of Health and Medical Education regarding doctors in teaching hospitals.
Dr Lalu Prasad, senior pediatrician and member of the team, said, “I am from Telangana but have been transferred to Andhra Pradesh. I have studied here and all my certificates were submitted, but the department has not attached them properly. Some of the certificates have been misplaced by them.” There were other doctors too who said that they were from TS and their certificates were missing. Angry doctors questioned the administration and nodal officer Mr Krishna Veni over the allocations and asked the latter to resign.
Dr Uma Shanker from Gandhi Hospital said, “The health officers have been influenced and they are not following the norms that have been listed out to them. They are adding Andhra Pradesh doctors to TS list and TS docs are sent to AP. This is not fair. There are over 6,000 doctors in this department and the haphazard manner in which the works have been done is not acceptable.” The doctors met the Kamalnathan Committee and urged it to cancel the earlier tentative list submitted for the teaching hospitals. But they were shocked to find that the list of other doctors also had grave anomalies.
