Temple tragedy: 83 victims get ex-gratia

The state government has announced and released ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for families of only the deceased.

Mysuru: While the Union government has released ex-gratia of Rs 75 lakh for the victims of the Sulawadi temple prasada tragedy, ex-gratia cheques were distributed among 83 people who fell ill after the incident on Thursday.

Chamarajnagar MP Mr R Druvanarayan, distributed cheques worth Rs 50,000 each among the 83 who were severely ill and were treated in the ICU after they consumed prasada at Kichguth Maramma temple in Sulawadi on December 14, 2018. Mr Druvanarayan also distributed cheques of ex-gratia worth Rs 2 lakh each to the families of 17 people who died in the incident, from the central funds. He said he had raised the issue in the parliament session in December and had approached the PM’s office with an official memorandum. The state government has announced and released ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for families of only the deceased. Most of these victims being daily wage workers, became weak after the incident and had demanded ex gratia from the state government too.
