Left Democratic Front to begin seat talks soon

The CPM state secretariat is scheduled to meet on February 1 and state committee from February 2.

Thiruvananthapuam: The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) leadership is set to start preliminary discussions on seat sharing for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Officially though the CPM leaders say that the decision on candidates and seats would be taken only after the announcement of elections, given the high stakes, the party is expected to start the process soon, The CPM state secretariat is scheduled to meet on February 1 and state committee from February 2.

Initial discussions on the probables in each constituency and the existing strength and weaknesses are likely to take place at these meetings. A broader strategy for Lok Sabha elections will also be worked out.

After the CPM and CPI state leadership meetings, the LDF constituents would be holding bilateral discussions on seat sharing and candidates.

The LDF will hold formal discussions on poll related issues at its meeting on February 11. By that time all constituent parties would finalise the proposals to be presented before the LDF.

Though there are reports doing the rounds about fielding Prakash Karat, Brida Karat, M A Baby, the state leadership says these are only in the realm of speculation.
