THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan on Wednesday said the allegations against him were baseless as there was no case pending against him in Dubai.
In a statement, he said: "There is no case exists against me in Dubai. We had certain financial transactions with Rahul Krishnan of JAAS Tourism Company in 2015. We had taken 3 million Dirham from that company. Of which 2 million has been returned.
"While one million was to be returned at that time, cheques worth 3 million were with him. During this period Rahul faced financial crisis. We sought the cheque worth 3 million from him. But he continued to evade saying that he would return and ask his manager to do the needful. I left the issue at that.
"After one month when I went to Dubai I received a message that one of the cheques had bounced. At that time I called Rahul and asked him why did he do this nasty thing. He replied that the sponsor had taken over his company. I told him that we are supposed to repay only AED 1 million, and it was not right in getting the cheque worth 3 million dishonoured.
"Rahul said he would settle the payment soon. Payment will be made and sought the cheque back. Subsequently, Rahul blocked me on his phone, and I could not succeed in contacting him. I decided to meet this issue legally.
"I filed a complaint in a Dubai court in 2017 and presented myself before the court and police and gave a statement. It was understood that only AED 1 million was to be returned. The court ordered 60,000 dirhams fine, and the case was scrapped.
"This is what has happened. We have not defrauded anyone. There is no case against me in Dubai or any bar on visiting that place."
