Contractors warn of stir, blame price rise in Telangana
Hyderabad: Contractors have threatened to stop work on all construction projects in Telangana state, demanding a roll back of hike in steel and iron prices.
They have also set a deadline of February 5 for the state government to clear their arrears. If the government doesn’t meet the deadline, the contractors will stop works and go on strike.
The government works pertaining to irrigation projects, 2BHK housing scheme, roads and other infrastructure projects in state are likely to be hit, if the issue is not resolved by February 5.
The Builders Association of India held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss on this issue and devise future course of action. Mr S.N. Reddy, national vice-president, and B. Sugunakar Rao, chairman of TS unit of BAI, said a 60 per cent hike in iron and steel prices has made construction financially unviable.
