CHENNAI: In good news to residents of Nanganallur and Adambakkam, the areas would soon get a facelift with the MLA of the zone (Alandur), T.M. Anbarasan releasing funds to address key issues of the area including the maintenance of Adambakkam Lake, construction of roads, speed breakers and an additional pumping station.

“Almost all the resident associations of Adambakkam raised the issue of ill maintenance of Adambakkam lake and also asked for a walking path around it. For the purpose Rs 1 crore has been allotted - 50 lakh each from MLA and MP funds,” said Anbarasan.

He further added that the project would start in May after the eviction of dwellers near the lake. “We have to wait till May to avoid inconvenience to the school children.”

Moreover, an additional pumping station would also come up near the Adambakkam co-operative society, as sewage pumping remains one of the major issues of the area.

The MLA said the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) would soon acquire a land spanning 8,064 square metres for Rs 2.28 crore right beside the existing pumping station.

Also, an estimate of Rs 1.10 crore has been obtained from the corporation to renovate five dilapidated Anganwadis in the area by May.

Apart from this, Rs 10 lakh has been allotted to build a compound wall for library in Raghava Nagar and works are going on to provide additional water connections to address water issue in the area before the onset of summer.

At Nanganallur, major problems include half dug roads for the construction of storm water drains, absence of culverts and speed breakers.

For the purpose, a letter has been sent to the corporation seeking permission and estimate. They promised that the work would begin in two months.
