Chennai: 3,000 stranded in block over train jumpstart

Five passengers who slipped included three women and were given first aid by the railway personnel.

Chennai: More than 3,000 railway passengers were stranded for about an hour on Tuesday when a group of angry railway passengers stopped two suburban trains and a passenger train on Tuesday between Chengalpet and Guduvanchery railway line.

The commuters, who noticed five passengers slipping and falling on the railway platform due to a jump-start by the engine driver, stopped the subsequent trains.
Railway sources said train traffic was affected for an hour until protesters gave up their agitation after railway officials assured necessary action against the engine driver.

Five passengers who slipped included three women and were given first aid by the railway personnel. Meanwhile, social media was full of rumours that pro-jallikattu supporters stopped trains. As a ripple effect, train traffic between Chengalpet and Beach was disrupted during the morning peak hour and the situation returned to normal after two hours. Several office goers and commuters had a tough time until the help came from railway officials.
