15 Delhi Police personnel awarded Police Medals

Among the men and women who will be awarded, will be the officers who helped solve some of the major cases in India.

New Delhi: Fifteen Delhi Police personnel, including five women, have been conferred Police Medals for exemplary service rendered by them.

Three personnel of Delhi Police including Inspector Shiv Kumar, ASI Chander Vir Singh and constable Ravi Dutt, presently posted with Special Cell, have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.

They were involved in an encounter with the interstate gangster of Delhi and UP, Firoz Fauzi, who was wanted in the sensational murder of a Delhi Police constable Shivraj Tomar in 2014.

In the encounter at Sonia Vihar Pusta, Fauzi had died in retaliatory fire by police. Shots fired by him had hit the bullet proof vest of Inspector Shiv Kumar and police vehicle, a statement from Delhi Police said.

Vasant Vihar ACP, Kanta Prasad Kukrety, and Assistant Sub Inspector Madhu Bala, have been conferred with President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Kukrety was instrumental in solving various heinous and sensitive crimes including Lajpat Nagar bomb blast.

Those who have been conferred with Police Medal for Meritorious Service are Sub Inspectors Harbir Singh, Khazan Singh and Neeru Aggarwal, ASIs Pushpa Kumari and Har Prasad, Head Constables Jai Bhagwam, Rajni Lakra, Rajpal and Sunita, and Constable Krishna Kumar Gour who has been now promoted as an ASI.

Sub Inspector Harbir Singh, who joined Delhi Police in 1986, was a member of teams which were responsible for arrest and neutralisation of more than 80 terrorists of different outfits including Lashkar-e-Toiba, Harkat-ul-Muzahideen, Hizbul Muzahiddin, Al Badr and Babbar Khalsa International.
