Hyderabad: Kid drowns in open pit

Hyderabad: A four-year-old boy fell into an uncovered pit filled with water that was used by an automobile servicing centre, and drowned while playing at Medchal on Sunday evening.

The victim, Chinta Anjaiah, was the elder son of C. Ka-nakaraju, a watchman and Lalitha.

At around 3 pm, Lalitha saw her son playing. outside. She brought him back and asked him to stay at home. After some time, the boy left the house again.

An hour later, she noticed Anjaiah missing and alerted her husband. Along with the locals, they searched for the boy. When they could not find him, they app-roached the police.

At around 6.30 pm, locals noticed the body of a boy floating in a pit dug in Nagappa Motors, an automobile servicing centre, said the police, who recovered the body and sent it for the autopsy at Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

The police collected footage from the CCTV cameras to see how the incident occurred. It showed Anjaiah playing with a piece of thermocol. It fell in the water in the pit. The boy tried reaching for it and slipped into the water and drowned.

Medchal sub-inspector Appa Rao said the pit had been dug to prevent water from the service centre reaching the road. Service centre owner Nagappa has been booked.
