Vijayapura bandh total, rape case handed over to CID
Belagavi: “Vijayapura bandh” called by various organisations here on Saturday in protest against the gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl, was total.
After the arrest of four of the seven accused in the past two days, the case has been handed to the CID.
All business establishments, schools and colleges remained closed in the city. Buses and private vehicles were off the road. All political parties and organisations extended their support to the bandh call. Members of various organisations staged dharnas seeking stringent action against the accused.
The police have launched a hunt for three more accused persons in the case. The arrested have been identified as Sagar Morey, Srishail Muchandi, Kailas Rathod and a minor, all residents of Dargah Extension in Vijayapura.
Meanwhile, a team of CID officials headed by Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar met the family of the victim at Dargah Extension on Saturday. Unable to bear the shock, the victim’s mother is undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
