New landscape, more trees to liven up Subhash Bose Park

The beautification works and its annual maintenance are being done using CSR funds of a major private firm.

KOCHI: In view of widespread complaints against improper maintenance of the renovated Subhash Bose Park, the City Corporation has initiated series of measures to give a facelift to the park. Fruit trees and flowering plants are being planted and the entire park area is being landscaped. Regular cultural programmes will also be organised to attract more visitors. The beautification works and its annual maintenance are being done using CSR funds of a major private firm.

The City Corporation's Centre for Heritage, Environment and Development (C-hed) is responsible for the maintenance of the park. As part of the beautification, the Corporation has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Cochin Shipyard for repairing and conserving sculptures in the park. As per the MoU, CSL will provide the financial assistance to repair and conserve the sculptures in the park which are sculpted by well-known artists.

The art pieces are in a pathetic condition due to lack of proper maintenance. Under the conservation project, the sculptures will be repaired by the artists who have originally sculpted them or those suggested by them. "Sculptures in the park are being refurbished after 27 years. The renovation of art pieces will be completed by February, 2018. The objective is to convert the park into a most lively and beautiful public space in the city," said Rajan Chedambath, director of C-hed.
