Visakhapatnam: At a time when air passenger traffic is increasing rapidly, visitors coming to drop off their friends and relatives at the Visakhapatnam Airport are complaining about the lack of toilet facility close to the airport terminal.
The airport visitors complain that the toilet located far away from the terminal and it is difficult to access for the elderly and women visitors.
Vizag Airport continues to be the leader among the four airports in Andhra Pradesh in terms of passenger traffic, providing good connectivity and handling of domestic cargo in the state.
The airport has handled over 15 lakh passengers including international air-passengers in 2015-16 financial year. But, lack of toilets at the airport has been tarnishing the image of the airport in customer’s satisfaction index.
“Without toilet, I had a terrible time. I was forced to idle around the terminal building at the airport as there was no toilet near the terminal building and had to walk hundreds of meters to avail the facility, which was located near the parking arena,” says N. Vijaya Kumar, who visited the airport to receive his friend.
Visakha North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju of the BJP said that he has been receiving complaints from the visitors of the airport that they have been facing trouble to attend nature’s call as the toilets were away from the airport terminal building and sometimes the toilets were closed.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials have to address the issue for the comfort of the visitors, he added.
Admitting that the toilet facility for the visitors at the airport was located about 300 mts away from the terminal building, Vizag Airport director Vinok Kumar Sharma said that the toilets were built during the construction of the airport.
“We have been discussing with GVMC officials to set up two to three e-toilets for visitors near the terminal building and we have been improving the facilities at the Vizag Airport to double the comfort levels for passengers as well as visitors,” he added.
