M Karunanidhi is back at home after 'recovering well' from breathing difficulty
A slew of DMK leaders welcomed Mr Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence as he was being wheeled out from his vehicle.

Chennai: After being in hospital for a week, DMK President M Karunanidhi returned home on Friday after “recovering well” from breathing difficulty. He has been advised by doctors to be in “complete rest” and a placement of restrictions on visitors.
The 92-year-old, who was rushed to hospital on December 15 night after he complained of breathing difficulty, was discharged at around 4.15 pm and reached his Gopalapuram residence shortly afterwards.
As his specially designed vehicle left Kauvery Hospital, hundreds of DMK cadres gathered on both sides of the road and welcomed him by cheering and showering flowers.
A slew of DMK leaders welcomed Mr Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence as he was being wheeled out from his vehicle. The DMK chief underwent tracheostomy procedure on December 16 and the hospital was giving regular updates about his health, including releasing a photo of him watching television.
“DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi was discharged from Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai today after recovering well from breathing difficulty due to severe throat and lung infection. The antibiotic course has been completed,” the hospital said in a statement after Mr Karunanidhi’s discharge.
As he needs tracheostomy tube for few more weeks, medical and nursing care will continue to be provided at his home by Kauvery Hospital, the statement added.
During his one-week long hospital stay, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and AIADMK’s M. Thambidurai and D. Jayakumar visited him to enquire about his health.
