The issue of delisted parties came to the fore after the Election Commission wrote to the CBDT recently to take necessary action if any of these parties had taken donations in view of Sections 29B and 29C of the Representation of People’s Act 1951. The issue assumes significance as there is no bar on political parties receiving donations after demonetisation of high value currency notes.
Section 29B of the Act states: “Political parties entitled to accept contribution. Subject to the provisions of the Companies Act, every party may accept any amount offered to it by any person or company.
