Rains Lash Andhra Pradesh Ahead of Cyclone in Bay of Bengal

Visakhapatnam: Rains lashed Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh ahead of the cyclone formation in the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman Sea.

Kalakada in Annamaya district received the highest rainfall of 6.2 cm since Thursday. Temperature dipped by three to five degrees Celsius in many parts of AP due to the rains.

Weather officials from IMD Amaravati said a cyclonic circulation was likely to emerge over South Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood around Nov 26, Sunday. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around Monday. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 29.

Private weather website Skymet said the depression might intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.

During the last 24 hours, Kalakada (Annamayya district) received 6.2 cm, Nuzvid (Eluru) 3.6 cm, Sambepalle (Annamayya) 2.8 cm, Bapatla (Bapatla) 2.4 cm, Atmakur (Nellore) 2.2 cm and S Kota (Vizianagaram) 2.1 cm.

Temperature also dipped in several parts of the state following the rainfall activity.

Jangamaheswarapuram recorded 27.2 degrees C, five degrees less than the normal minimum temperature. Ongole recorded 26.4 degrees, 3.5 degrees less than the normal minimum, Nellore 26.6 degrees, 3 degrees less than the normal minimum.

The IMD report said coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will continue to receive moderate rains for the next two days.
