Shashi Tharoor seeks to foil BJP agenda
Kochi: BJP is playing a political game on the issue of Sabarimala and the same should be opposed and defeated, says Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Defending the position taken by the Congress leadership in the state on the issue Dr. Tharoor said the party is only trying to convey the feelings of the people in the matter.
The BJP on the other hand is trying to use religion for political purpose and this was evident from the description by BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai that “Sabarimla” as a golden opportunity. BJP has perfected such a game from the days of Ayodhya and that needed to be opposed and defeated for keeping the secular fabric and the constitutional order of the country, Dr. Tharoor said.
Blaming the state government for its hasty move to implement the Supreme Court order the Congress MP said that has triggered the whole issue. The government and the BJP should “disengage” and allow prevalence of peace and tranquility in Sabarimala. The issue Sabrimala is not of gender equality, he said, and added that it was a question of certain tradition.
The Congress under the leadership of opposition leader was not engaged in an agitation in Sabarimala, he said. It was only an attempt to reflect the public sentiments, he added.
