Thiruvananthapuram: A contempt of court petition against BJP state president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Sabarimala tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru and three others was filed in the Supreme Court on Friday.
Advocates Geena Kumar and A.V. Varsha filed the petition directly in the court against the five, including actor Kollam Thulasi, Pandalam royal family member Rama Raja Varma and BJP leader Muraleedharan Unnithan, accusing them of acting against the Supreme Court order allowing the entry of young women in the Saba-rimala temple.
Earlier, solicitor-general Tushar Mehta had denied permission for the petition on the ground that their statements were reasonable criticisms.
The solicitor-general’s response was also enclosed with the petition which was submitted for the consideration of the chief justice, the registry informed the advocates.
The petition accuses Mr Sreedharan Pillai of misinterpreting Justice Indu Malhotra’s verdict, organising protests and making speeches to prevent the implementation of the verdict.
The petition sought action against Mr Murale-edharan Unnithan for his call to set the Constitution on fire; Kollam Thulasi for threatening to tear women apart if they tried to enter Sabarimala and Rama Raja Varma for demanding the closure of the Sabarimala nada if women entered it.
