CM Pinarayi Vijayan laments Centre's indifference' to state
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday lamented Centre’s ‘indifferent’ attitude towards the state post flood rebuilding exercise.
At a press conference here, the chief minister said the Centre had so far given only Rs 600 crore. As per the norms of Disaster Response Fund, the state had demanded Rs 820 crore for the losses suffered in the first calamity and Rs 4,796 crore for the massive devastation caused during monsoon. A total of '5616 crore.
Besides the state had also sought a special assistance of Rs 5,000 crore. But what the Centre has sanctioned so far is not enough to even meet the losses of first calamity .
The chief minister said detailed studies carried out by World Bank and UN had estimated Rs 31,000 crore losses. But the actual loss is much more and the state will have to raise an additional Rs 26,000 crore for the rebuilding exercise. n From Page 1
Thiruvananthapuram: I will hand over the resignation letter to the Chief Minister whenever he is available in Capital, " he said.
The minister said that he was sad on not completing the full term. He refused to comment on the controversy over power sharing agreement.
"I don’t want to say anything since Deve Gowda has already made his stand clear. High court decision has no relevance once the Supreme Court issues a verdict.
But the manner in which the developments unfolded has pained me. This is not the way parties associated with Left do things,” he said.
Krishnankutty who is also JD(S) state president said the decision was based on the agreement.
At the state committee meeting held soon after the elections in 2016 to choose the party nominee for LDF Cabinet, it was decided that Mathew T Thoms would pave the way for Krishnankutty after two and a half years.
Earlier, at the meeting in Bangalore a resolution was passed replacing the minister. A copy of the resolution would be submitted to chief minister soon.
The JD(S) which has three MLAs, had been witnessing internal differences over the issue of replacing the minister. Krishnankutty faction had demanded his replacement on the basis of the agreement reached in 2016 that the minister would vacate the post after two and a half years. Though the demand was raised more than twice, the Mathew T Thomas faction had managed to delay the decision till now.
The reshuffle comes close on the heels registration of a case against Mathew T Thoams's wife for allegedly hurling casteist insults on a former staff of the minster. A woman, a former member of the Mathew’s personal staff, had alleged that the minister’s wife and some members of the personal staff had humiliated her by calling caste names.
The Mathew Thomas camp alleged that complaint was part of the conspiracy against the minister.
