Central team to visit Karaikal too

The Puducherry CM had visited Delhi with a request to release Rs 187 crore as relief to rebuild the enclave.

Puducherry: The Union government had agreed to send a central team to cyclone-affected areas of Karaikal region of the Union Territory to assess damage, for sanctioning relief as sought by the territorial government.

The inter ministerial team, led by Union Home Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Daniel Richard, which was assigned to assess the damage in Tamil Nadu will visit Karaikal also in continuation of its survey in the state.

Puducherry chief minister V Narayansamy has urged the union government to depute a central team to assess the damage in Karaikal and to release interim relief. The CM had visited Delhi with a request to release Rs 187 crore as relief to rebuild the enclave. An interim report was also submitted to the Union Ministry containing the details of damage caused in the area to roads, schools, electricity and other infrastructuresThe territorial administration had also decided to release an amount of Rs 2,000 to around 9,500 families of farm worker who lost their livelihood, from the State Disaster Relief Fund.
