Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday reserved its orders on a petition filed by Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) challenging the action of the police in rejecting permission to conduct its Koluvulakai Kotlata (Fight for Jobs) public meeting in the city on November 30. Ms B. Rachana Reddy, counsel appearing for TJAC, told Justice S.V. Bhatt that the committee had made an application to the LB Nagar deputy police commissioner seeking permission to hold the meeting in Saroornagar stadium which was rejected.
She urged the court to direct the police to grant permission either on November 4 or 6 to conduct the meeting. Mr S. Sharath Kumar, special counsel for the Telangana state government, submitted that the police was prepared to permit the petitioners to hold the meeting any date after December 6. He said in view of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit which is scheduled from November 28 for three days in city, the police rejected the permission. He told the court that police was expecting protests on December 6 against the Babri Masjid demolition. Permission would be granted for the meeting any day after that, he told Justice Bhatt.
Sportsperson gets nod for teacher test
The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed the Telangana State Public Service Commission to accept the application of a petitioner who had participated in district/state-level games to appear for the Teachers Recruitment Test for the post of physical education teacher. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi was dealing with a petition by Ms C. Swathi challenging the eligibility criteria prescribed by the State Public Service Commission
She contended that the Right to Education Act and National Council of Teacher Education guidelines mandated that candidates who had passed Intermediate and participated in district- or state-level games and sports were eligible for the post of physical education teacher. The petitioner told the court that the PSC was not allowing such candidates to apply. The bench directed the commission to accept the application of petitioner.
