Bengaluru: Only part of road under litigation, say residents
Bengaluru: The residents of Narayanpura in Whitefield were disappointed with the recent remarks made by Corporator S. Uday Kumar regarding the poor condition of roads in their area. In a report carried by Deccan Chronicle on November 20 he had shrugged off his responsibility, by stating that the entire stretch of road was under litigation.
However, residents argue that only the first 100 metres of the road from Varthur was under litigation, while the rest 1.1 km stretch can be repaired. One of the residents, Minku Buttar, who has been fighting for the construction of the road, said the corporator was evading responsibility. "This is an invalid excuse. How can he sweep unfulfilled promises under the carpet and disregard demands for a motorable road?" she said.
Nearly 1,600 people live in the locality and they have decided to reassess the candidate selection in the coming election if the demand for a paved road was not met. The residents have been fighting for it for the past 8 years and the authorities have evaded responsibility. One of the residents, who did not wish to be named, said that he was scared to give a statement to the newspaper as he feared the goons of the ruling party would beat him. Some residents told DC that while the BBMP engineer has assured them of paved roads, the corporator has said it was not possible due to litigation.
