Apple, UIDAI to recruit students from IIT-Madras
Chennai: Despite the slowdown and downward trend in campus placements, so for 270 companies have registered for placements at IIT Madras which is scheduled to start from December 1.
Some of the major companies including Apple Inc., Alvarez and Marsal India Pvt Ltd, UBS AG and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) are coming to the prestigious engineering institute for the first time.
“Of 270 companies, 15 per cent of registered companies are coming for the first time to IIT Madras. Traditional recruiters such as Microsoft, Samsung R & D, Goldman Sachs are also registered for placements.
The first phase will be conducted from December 1 to 10,” Professor Manu Santhanam, advisor, Training and Placement, IIT Madras said in a release. “This placement season looks promising. We have already seen a major jump in the number of pre-placement offers,” he said.
IIT Madras has recorded a 56 per cent increase in the Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). As many as 114 offers have been received this year by the students as against 73 in the previous year.
More than 1,100 students have registered for placements across different streams and departments this year.
The number is expected to increase, as more research scholars become eligible.
To reduce the stress faced by the students in the early phase of the placements, IIT Madras has done away with the ‘Graveyard Slot,’ which begins the early hours of day one (December 1), usually from 12 midnight to 6 am.
