Druggists fight over online sales
Hyderabad: The Federation of Indian Pharmacies Association wants implementation of drug laws and curbs on the sale of fake medicines by e-pharmacies. The association, in a proposal to the health minister, said there was a need to use technology to check these issues.
Association president Dr R.S. Thakur said e-pharmacies were a good option to curb the sale of spurious medicines and ensure proper implementation of the drug control laws. He wanted that medicine distribution online should be professionally managed and there must be qualified and registered pharmacists to sell the products.
With the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists demanding a ban on e-pharmacies, this demand from another association comes amid an on-going war between two major groups controlling the medicine market. Mr R Gupta of the AIOCD explained, “The issue of spurious drugs is not at the retail level and has to be handled at the manufacturer and distributor level.”
