1.20 lakh houses to be constructed in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababau Naidu directed the officials to commence the construction of 1.20 lakh houses in all municipalities by the end of December. In a meeting held here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to take up the construction activity in Kakinada, Nellore, Tadi-patri and Chilakaluripeta municipalities soon. Four models of houses to be constructed under urban housing scheme were demonstrated to the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister suggested to the officials to plan for long-term maintenance of the buildings. Without proper maintenance, even the well-constructed buildings would be dilapidated at the earliest, he added. He also suggested the setting up of corpus fund for maintenance during construction time and the burden should not be levied on the beneficiary. The Chief Minister also took stock of the condition of roads in towns and cities. He instructed the municipal and R& B departments to coordinate in taking up repairs and laying new roads in 110 municipalities. He called for monthly report on the status of repairs and beautification of roads in the municipalities.
To ensure that right quantity of water is distributed daily in Vijaya-wada, the Chief Minister launched Smart Water Distribution Monitoring System. The objective of this monitoring system is to ensure right quantity of water is distributed daily to the public at the right time and to reduce cost per unit water by reducing water losses due to overflowing and leakages. The smart water distribution monitoring system will monitor inflow, outflow and water level at plants and reservoirs on real time basis. It will also measure flow variations in various branches.
