Youth Cong protests against Union, state govts on failure to tackle floods

Speaking at the rally, Mr Srinvas appealed to Youth Congress workers to start developing the habit of protesting for a genuine cause.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Youth Congress workers under the leadership of Indian Youth Congress president, B.V. Srinivas on Wednesday staged a protest at Maurya circle against the Union and state governments over the failure to tackle the flood situation and misuse of central investigation agencies.

They protested against the rise in unemployment, delay in release of funds to flood-affected areas, economic slowdown and misuse of the Income Tax (IT), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target political rivals.

Speaking at the rally, Mr Srinvas appealed to Youth Congress workers to start developing the habit of protesting for a genuine cause. "No matter where you are, what you are doing, spare time for the party too. No party is built in a single day. It takes a lot of effort and perseverance, to build a party. We need youngsters who can dedicate themselves to people's welfare and who can take up people's causes," he said in his maiden speech after becoming IYC president. Incidentally he is the first Kanndiga to occupy the post.

KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao who also took part in the protest said that the union government is busy organising big events but wondered about the benefit of all these events? "How can the country benefit from one person's megalomaniac tendencies? How is it helping anybody? That is the reason why the Youth Congress is organising this massive protest," he said. "The government should solve people's problems and should not divert attention from real issues. They cannot rewrite history to suit their own ideology and divide society," he added.

Senior Congress leaders also participated in the protest with workers trying to lay siege to Raj Bhavan during which they were arrested.
