Hyderabad: She Teams rejoice five glorious years
Hyderabad: The services of ‘She Teams’, a brainchild of Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, drew wholesome praise from girls, women and politicians.
Commemorating its fifth foundation day, the Police Department organised a function to celebrate its fifth successful year at Charminar here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, applauded the services being rendered by the sleuths of She Teams, which was able to achieve several successes. A major development has been that the sense of insecurity that girl students and women from the city felt has been removed after She Teams came into existence. It has been to such spectacular levels that notorious rowdy elements have realised that they could no more go scot-free what with She Teams sleuths keeping constant vigil around schools and colleges. US Consul General, Mr Joel Reifman, said he was delighted to learn that ever since Hyderabad police gave shape to the She Teams initiative, it has spread into all districts of the state.
He urged police personnel to also keep tab on cyber crimes as innocent girls and students are soft targets and were being harassed and blackmailed on social media platforms.
Mr Owaisi pointed that according to the latest NCRB report, Telangana was second only to Assam in cyber crimes.
Criminals are hacking accounts of girls and women and exploiting them by manipulating their photos and videos.
He said protection of women was essential to project Hyderabad as a peaceful city. Girls should feel safe not only in their homes, but also in their respective schools and colleges. He advised girls to bravely lodge complaints with police if they are harassed by someone. He said they could also approach him.
‘We are ensured of a safe and secure atmosphere in the city, thanks to the ever on-the-alert police personnel,’ he said.
US Consul General, Mr Joel Reifman said that he was delighted to learn that ever since Hyderabad police gave shape to the She Teams initiative, it has spread into all districts of the State. So much so that today all districts and Commissionerates have ‘SHE Teams’ to manage cases of harassment against women and children. The numbers also reflect the credible efficiency of SHE Teams in Hyderabad. They have received more than 6,000 complaints, registered over 300 cases, and have taken more than 2,600 accused into custody. This bears testimony to the synergy of the police and their SHE Teams units, he said.
“Every country, incl-uding the United States, must assume the responsibility of addressing sexual har-assment cases. When we do this, we are all stronger and better for it and when you have supportive mechanisms, such as SHE Teams, winning the battle is within reach,” Mr Reifman said.
