Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills police registered a case against Congress leader and Malkajgiri Member of Parliament A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday for obstructing a police officer from performing his duties.

Sub inspector of Jubilee Hills police station Naveen Reddy, who registered the complaint in view of the Pragati Bhav-an Muttadi call given by the Congress, said that security was tightened at the residences of Congress leaders to prevent them from proceeding towards the CM's residence. He said when he was on duty at the residence of Mr Revanth Reddy on Monday at 11.15 am, Mr Revanth Reddy and around 15 of his associates emerged from the residence and rushed towards the main road raising slogans of “Chalo Pragathi Bhavan”. The sub inspector and other policemen tried to take them into custody, but they resisted.

“Mr Revanth Reddy and his associates obstructed him (Naveen Reddy) from discharging his duties.  Due to their assault and criminal force, he fell on the road and sustained injuries on his left elbow," said a police official.

The Jubilee Hills police has booked a case under section 341 of the Indian Penal Code (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 353 IPC (Assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 IPC (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty).

Another casualty of the incident was Asifnagar ACP N. Narasimha Reddy, who was attached to the DGP's office, for his failure to restrain Mr Reddy from reaching Pragathi Bhavan.
