Thiruvananthapuram: Killiyar to be clean by January 1
Thiruvananthapuram: There are 71 days left towards the completion of the first phase of Killiyar mission, according to the calendar set by Killiyar City Mission, and on January 1, 2019, Killiyar will be declared to be clean. From December 15 to 18, the banks will be cleaned using machines. On December 22, there will be a mega cleaning.
Ahead of this, 250 volunteers are to be trained on Saturday for a survey along the river. The survey, which will start on November 1 to November 15, will create a record of built structures within 50 metres on either side of the river, the ghats, vacant plots and available toilet facilities on river banks. Volunteers will also be trained to document the amount of solid waste in the river, as well as the liquid waste which lands in the river.
By November 18, the survey report will be submitted by the volunteers. Following this, on November 19 and 20, there will be a meeting to analyse the data collected. Killiyar Techni-cal Committee, survey team, project implementation units, river profile creation team and DPR preparation team will take part.
An expert team will look into the data collected, and visit the river banks on Novem-ber 21 and 25, to collect information for preparing Killiyar City Missi-on DPR, as well as a plan for awareness and cleaning drive. From November 26 to 30, there will be meetings dedicated to preparing a DPR, as well as charting out a campaign plan.
A special meeting of Killiyar technical co-mmittee, project implementation units, DPR preparation team and river profile creation team will be held on November 27.
There will be a presentation on DPR and the campaign for the councillors of every ward through which Killiyar flows, on December 1. This will be followed ward-level meetings, until the clean-up of the river starts.
